Why Book a Photoshoot for Your Teen or Tween?

You have a teen, or two, or three! and maybe you’ve never considering booking a photoshoot specifically to celebrate your emerging young adult. “Is this even a thing people do?” you may be thinking.  My answer is, yes! And if you don’t think this is something for you or your teen, let me share with you five reasons you should!

You may be thinking, “Everyone has a phone that takes pretty good photos now” or maybe some of your friends are dabbling in photography so you might think they could just take the photos! But the truth is not everyone with an iphone or even a camera is a great photographer.

As a photographer specializing in tweens and teens since 2010, I have years of experience with capturing this special time in a teenager’s life. Not to mention I have three teens of my own and one tween! I have perfected my craft by developing an experience that allows me to get to know each and every one of my clients and give them a photo shoot that tells their unique story. There is more to photographing a teen than simply clicking the shutter.

Here are five reasons to book a photoshoot for your teenaged child:

1. I have the right equipment and the skills! To consistently capture beautiful photos, you need more than a fancy camera. I have heard it before, “your camera takes really great photos!” But the truth is the camera is only part of the equation. It takes skills to know how to use that equipment, what shutter speed, what angle, and what light works best to make your child look natural and at their best.

2.They are only teenagers once! Your teen deserves to be celebrated! They have changed so much since childhood. They are no longer little kids, but not yet fully adults. It’s a really unique time in their lives where their facial features are changing and bodies are growing. Things are changing so much so that they look noticeably different from 12 to 14 to 16 to 18 years old! A photoshoot for your teen can help you preserve the remaining hints of their childhood as they continue growing into their adult selves.

3. Teens need to know what a GOOD photo of themselves actually looks like. In this day and age of social media, this generation has more photos of themselves than any other generation. Social media is fun! But quantity doesn’t always mean quality and if we aren’t intentional, all we may have from this stage of life are those trendy,  filtered, slightly blurry, goofy faced versions of our teens. Nothing timeless or classic that you would want to keep on your walls for their future selves to appreciate.

4. Our lives are just too busy! As parents, we honestly think that we will finally “take some nice photos” of our teens on that next holiday or at the next birthday. But the reality is that we get busy, we forget, or our teens don’t really want to cooperate with us. So we end up with a random assortment of candids on our camera phones that we intend to print and frame or put into an album. I get it, I’m a mom of four boys! So let me help you to get on top of updating all the baby photos around the house with images of your emerging young person. These are images you’ll be proud of and that they will appreciate today and into their future.  Speaking of updating those images around the house…

5. Your images can be transformed into works of art! Digital images are great and most teens want to be able to share their photos on social media. But you also have the ability to create works of art from your photos and parents especially love this! Don’t just leave your photos in the cloud. Photos are meant to be displayed and enjoyed, in real life! With the different product options I offer, you can pick the products that best suit your needs.

So there you have it!
