What can I do with my digital images?

So you’ve purchased some digital downloads recently from an event, and you’re wondering what to do next? Here are not five, not six, but SEVEN ideas for how to make the most of the digital downloads this season. (Listed from cheapest to most expensive.)

1. Update your wallpaper on your computer / phone

What easier way to enjoy your images than to see it every time you pick up your phone or log in to your computer. Let it be a constant reminder of who you love the most.

2. Share in a post or story on social media

Posting some highlights along with photos on social media is an easy way to share what you’ve been up to and highlight some of the most memorable moments. Don’t forget to tag me if you end up sharing somewhere on social media! (@ChristineTanPhotography)

3. Display photos on a digital frame in the house.

These mini-monitor/screens can hold up to several hundred photos and cycle through them every few seconds. I actually haven’t used it myself, but I have seen them in homes. It’s definitely a step up from keeping the photos to yourself on your device. Search for “digital picture frame” on Amazon or shop for one at your country’s electronic stores.

4. Create actual holiday cards or New Years greetings featuring the images.

This is a very popular way to share photos in the US where I come from. I love receiving cards from friends showing photos of their kids growing up each holiday season. It’s not such a common tradition in Australia, but we could start a new trend! Photo holiday cards are a fun way to show everyone how much the family has changed and let them know you’re thinking about them. Companies that make these include Canva, Vista Print, Photobook Australia, or Costco and Shutterfly in the US.

5. Create a new calendar to gift the grandparents

Photo calendars are a unique gift for anyone. Use the images that you purchased and enjoy a new photo each month for a year! Most of the companies from #4 do calendars too!

6. Enlarge your favourite digital image then frame and hang it on the walls in your house.

Your family will appreciate it for many years and your walls can become like a memorial of all the seasons of family life. Use high end labs such as The Edge Printers in Surrey Hills rather than the ones that print your photos instantly. You will need to wait a couple days, but the quality is far better and they ship anywhere in the country.

7. Create a work of art by printing your image as a canvas or metal print

Display it proudly and prominently in your home. Even print a collection to create a wall collage of all your kids or just of one kid in various poses. I work with Narre Warren Fine Art Printing in Melbourne and he ships anywhere!

(If you’re planning to print enlargements or print on canvas, you’ll need to make sure you purchased the largest digital file for the best product.)

Even as a photographer I’m not alway on top of not printing my own photos to display in the home. Rather than feeling overwhelmed, I print and frame one or two photos at a time. Over months and years, the collection on the wall grows!
